AGM – and Dinner 15th February 1990 – Marine Club Leadenhall Street EC3

Rules changes, although it seemed that a specific proposal re length of service on the Committee had been rejected by the Committee at a recent Meeting a variation was obviously put to the AGM.
Minutes not totally clear and no copy of the amended rules to hand.  Overall seemed to mean that  Committee Members would be limited to two terms of Office, of three years each.

Cufflinks – orders could be made, then an Order would be placed.

Dinner
A real change of venue. The Marine Club in the basement of 52 Lime Street. A well known and attractive venue. 79 enjoyed an excellent dinner, provided by Quintessance, which it would appear was followed by a very enjoyable Port.
This was a new venue, for many years previously this event had been held at the Guildhall Club, Guildhall, Aldermanbury.
The Dinner probably comprised of:
Smokies
Supreme of Chicken Princess
Fresh Fruit Salad

The Guest speaker was The Master’s God-Father, Mr Geoffrey Gough who had recently retired from the Court of the Bank of England.
The change of venue was brought about in the main by a change in the pricing structure at the Guildhall Club.

This evening cost £26.50 per person

Annual Service – St Peter upon Cornhill – 6th June

Hymn No 231 – All people that on earth do dwell
Lesson 1 Peter vv 1-8 (The President Alderman B.E. Toye)

Hymn
247 Praise my soul, the King of Heaven

This was followed by;

Civic Luncheon 6th June 1990 – in The Crypt – Guildhall

140 attendees in total, including 14 Official Ward Club Guests
Sheriff Paul Newall spoke on behalf of the Lord Mayor who had pulled out at the last minute, possibly having remembered that his daughter’s 21st Birthday was on that day. Our Master needed a very instant speech re-write because of course she had prepared a speech about Hugh Bidwell the 662nd Lord Mayor (Grocer) not Paul Newall!
“It means the  Master’s speech is going to be shorter!”
The guest speaker was John Clevely MW, the UK agent for Veuve Cliquot.

The Menu.
Salmon Bellevue – Macon Chardonnay – Louis Latour 1988
Boned and Stuffed Poussin, Pommes Parisienne, Turned Baby Carrots – Chateau Beausite 1986
Rasberry Mousse – with Pashion Fruit Coulis
Coffee – Petit Fours – Taylor’s 10 Year Old Tawny or Armagnac – J de Malliac VSOP
Catered by Payne and Gunter

Wine Tasting – The Waterloo Room – Davy’s Wine Bar – The Habit. – 26th June

A really light and bright modern room – not like a traditional Davy’s (Wood Panelling…..)
– a good thing as it was a very hot evening in mid summer!
8 Wines from Davy’s wine list were presented by Diana Paterson-Fox (Sainsbury’s/Daily Telegraph Wine Taster of the Year)
Bordeaux Sauvignon 1989
Macon Clessé 1988
Beaujolais Village 1988
Moulin a Vent 1987
St Amour 1976
Ch La Roche Beaulieu 1982
Ch Lafitte Carcasset 1985
Ch la Roche Beaulieu 1978
– £6.50 per person.

A Dinner was organised (£16.50), comprising:
Potted Shrimps
Rump Steak, Potatoes and Salad
Fruit/Cheese
Coffee

It seems possible that some of the attendees finished the evening at another Davy’s establishment – Skinkers near London Bridge ?

The traditional Harvest Festival was cancelled owing to building work in the Church

Autumn Function – Engine Room of Tower Bridge 13/11/1990

Finger Buffet with Wine (£19.50) in the Engine Room of Tower Bridge with a short presentation from Bridge Master Col C.R.L. Stevens
